What We Need is a Spiritual Insecticde

(June 11, 1942) Uncle Sam removes the “racial prejudice bug” from the heads of Americans.  Dr. Seuss cartoon.
"My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory. For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” while you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,” have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him? But you have dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who drag you into court? Are they not the ones who blaspheme the honorable name by which you were called?"
James 2:1-7

I really don't like the cartoon at the top of the page, but I think it typifies in some way what James is saying to the readers.

Some things for us to consider:

"For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth." 1 Cor.1:26.  God has chosen us, not from wisdom, power or nobility.

"But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are," 1 Cor.1:27-28.  God has chosen the weak, the lowly and despised, the "nothings" of the world to be His.

"So that no human being might boast in the presence of God. " 1 Cor.1:29.   If we are indeed children of God, believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, there is no room for partiality.

"He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, whom God made our wisdom and our righteousness and sanctification and redemption."  (1 Cor.1:30)  We are all on level playing ground in the Christian life.

Looks to  me like some of us might need a good spiritual insecticide!

Have a blessed weekend, treating all without partiality,
Gloria
