Standing On the Rock of Ages

To you, O Lord, I call, my Rock
be not deaf to me, lest, if you be silent to me,
I become like those who go down to the pit.
Psalm 28:1

This morning as I pondered Psalm 28, the words, "my Rock" continued to stand out to me.  I went to my trusty resource, the computer, and began to look up "rock."  Eventually I came across a website that gave me some interesting information about rocks, as well as the pictures I will use.

Foundation
Rocks  are foundational to buildings.  In the same way, the Lord Jesus Christ is our foundation.  "For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ."  1 Corinthians 3:11

Rock is a solid source of building materials used over the world from early in history.  As believers in Christ Jesus, we become the building of God, the temple for the indwelling Holy Spirit.  "...built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone. In Him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in Him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit."  Ephesians 2:20-22

Rock is used to make bridges, which carry us across difficult passages, across waters that would otherwise hinder us from travel.  It is often our salvation from the elements.  I won't hesitate to use the words from the song, "Bridge Over Troubles Waters" to speak of our God.  In Isaiah 46:4 He said, "Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you."

Some rocks are of great beauty, as these geodes.  Our Lord is the Source of greatest beauty in our lives.  King David spoke of the beauty of the Lord more than once in the Psalms.  In Psalm 27:4, he said, " One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek Him in His temple."

Others are used to make exquisite jewels of incredible value. In Matthew 13:46, a man found a pearl. "...who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it."  There is no greater or more perfect jewel than the Pearl of Great Price, our Lord Jesus Christ, formed out of inconceivable suffering and yet Perfect, enabling us to have a firm foundation, to be the temple of His Spirit, to have confidence in His ability to carry us through this hard life,  and to enjoy Him in His beauty for all eternity.

As we begin our week, let us meditate on our Rock and our Salvation, thanking and praising Him for what He has done for us and for Who He is.

Standing on the Rock of Ages,
Gloria

Cranberry Morning

It is no wonder we see society crumbling around us when we don't have the 'Rock of Ages' as our foundation!

He is my Rock that will not waver.

I love all the different meanings of rock...and how you connected those to Scripture. Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather :)
