Like Him

    I will not violate my covenant
        or alter the word that went forth from my lips.
    Once for all I have sworn by my holiness;
        I will not lie to David.
    His offspring shall endure forever,
        his throne as long as the sun before me.
    Like the moon it shall be established forever,
        a faithful witness in the skies.” Selah
   Psalm 89:34-37

Although the psalmist is lamenting the fact that the house of David (under whose reign we don't know) was in turmoil and showed very little evidence of God's covenant with David, the promise of God still stood.  His promise that He would not violate His covenant was firm.  The psalm begins with a praise, then a lament, then closes with praise to Almighty God.  And though there is no one sitting on the throne of David today, we know by the authority of God's Word that the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the Lord Jesus Christ is the ultimate ruler in the line of David, fulfilling the covenant that God made with the long ago king of Israel.

But what about His covenant with us?  Hebrews 7 tells us that His covenant with us is better than His covenant with Melchizedek, king of Salem.  Hebrews 8 says that His covenant is better than that made with the priests of old.  He is High Priest, the One who hears our prayers without our having to go through another mediator.  He is our Mediator.  He tells us in 2 Corinthians 3:6 that, "He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life."

Paul continues his comparison of the Old Covenant (the law) with the New Covenant (Christ and His work on our behalf.)

"Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, fading though it was, will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? (2 Corinthians 3:7-11)

If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory.

And if what was fading away came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts

The end result?  "And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Because of His covenant with us, we are becoming like Him!  Even though, as with the throne of David, we may not see the end result, it is nonetheless true.  Some day, we will be like Him.

Hallelujah and Praise the Lord!

My desire is to be transformed like Him but it does seem like a slow process with my daily failings. Thankful for His mercy when I disappoint Him
