Wow! What a difference in the Scripture and the song! I have been reminded once again this week that it is so very important to put oneself in the background and to put the interests of others first. Sitting as a silent observer, I watched firsthand the ugliness and discomfort of being so self-absorbed that one cannot hear what another is saying.
God's word for the day: "Consider others as more important than yourself." "Do not look on your own selfish interests, but also on the interests of others." Our accolades, if there are any to be had, should come from the Lord, and that will likely be in eternity, considering that many of us are so caught up in ourselves that we don't have the time to cheer others on.
I hate that song, but I encourage you to listen to it--and then don't do what the song does, which is to praise yourself. "Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips."(Proverbs 27:2)
It's all about Him,

From Judy: Yikes, what a song! What an snapshot of our society today, on the fast track to destruction, unless we get our eyes off ourselves and look to the only One who can rescue us from ourselves. Interesting you closed that way, for the past several weeks I've been pondering the simple theological point that 'It's all about HIM.' Praise God that He can forgive all our selfishness and cover us with Christ's righteousness when we look to Him alone. Only He can satisfy.'
It's pretty lame, considering how powerful the message of the post is and I don't feel good at communicating how profound is the joy, satisfaction, peace, relief, happiness, etc. that comes from knowing that it IS all about Him.
I think as humans, we are all guilty of wanting to hear the praise of others. And even get insulted if we don't. It's so hard to put that aside and do for others, do our best, do whatever we do for the Glory of God and to help our fellow man. And then there is the whole thing about using your talents for Him and not your own selfish glory. I pray that do for Him/others more often than I do for me. It's a struggle. Great post Gloria!
