Save me, O God!
For the waters have come up to my neck.
I sink in deep mire,
where there is no foothold;
I have come into deep waters,
and the flood sweeps over me.
(Psalm 69:1-2 ESV)

(Psalm 69:1-2 ESV)
I'm stretching this a bit; David was once again drowning in the throes of the enemy and feeling very vulnerable. Last night was a night when I felt like the waters of sleeplessness were about to drown me. When that happens it is usually because something is hard on my mind, something that I am deeply concerned about. And usually my children or grandchildren are the subject of my concern. Last night was no different. I left church with a heavy heart for some loved ones. When that happens I don't sleep. I lie in bed and pray, toss and turn for awhile, and then get up and lie on the sofa, where I toss and turn and pray some more.
Fist of all, I am thankful for those times. I believe that God graciously makes me sleepless so that I have nothing better to do than pray. Secondly, I believe that the person or persons for whom I am praying may be in a situation at the time in which they are in dire need of prayer. It is not necessary for me to know what is going on or why the prayer is needed, but if God keeps me awake with a heavy heart, then I am remiss not to pray.
"But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord.
At an acceptable time, O God,
in the abundance of your steadfast love
answer me in your saving faithfulness."
Psalm 69:13
Oh, thank you, Father for those wonderful words of comfort! I will not drown in my concerns. In His time He will answer!
I will praise the name of God with a song;
I will magnify him with thanksgiving.
Psalm 69:30
I will magnify him with thanksgiving.
Psalm 69:30
Though I didn't think to do so last night, this morning I thank God for His answers, and I praise Him for His unsurpassing ability to answer. Praise God!
Ever have a sleepless night? Use it well; pray!
Yawning,
Gloria

Dear Yawning - I am so with you on that praying during sleepless nights! And I'm becoming more aware of the fact that what I tend to be drowning in is my own sinfulness. If it isn't one thing, it's another.
To Judy: I can't agree with you more! What sinners we are. Heaven sounds better and better, except I'm afraid that when I stand before the judgment seat of Christ, I'm going to be very ashamed. Thank the Lord that eternity will erase all that! But while I'm here, I'd for sure like to do better!
OH, Gloria,
I can totally identify with this...There have been some times where I was wide awake so early in the morning, while it was still dark outside...and I just felt so strongly the need to pray. I knew it wasn't just the simple matter of not being able to sleep, but God putting it on my hear to pray for a particular person(s). I think when God puts someone on our hearts/minds, that we should just say a quick prayer for them :) Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather :)
